
In Vietnam, almost 3 million children require mental health care due to the country’s 12 percent of youngsters experiencing mental health issues such anxiety, depression, loneliness, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
The World Health Organization (WHO), the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education and Training published the findings of a survey on the health of Vietnamese students in October 2021. The survey involved around 8,000 students, aged 13 to 18, from 81 schools spread across 20 provinces and cities.
More than 15% of students considered suicide, while 12.59% of students reported feeling lonely sometimes or always. Additionally, 16.81% of students reported finding it difficult to concentrate on their schoolwork.
A report on mental health services in schools, based on a survey of more than 1,000 students, instructors, and parents, was also released in late 2022 by ActionAid International in Vietnam and its partners. Roughly half of the kids who answered this question said that having strict parents and not doing well in school were the two biggest things hurting their mental health.
Studies conducted in Vietnam have shown that a higher percentage of female pupils than male students experience suicide ideation. Also, 16.31% of high school students report feeling lonely frequently.
According to Dr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, mental illnesses are widespread worldwide. According to WHO estimates, 1 in 8 persons suffer from a mental illness. A suicide occurs every 40 seconds. Approximately 50% of mental illnesses start before the age of 14.
