In the Middle Ages, in a French city, wives would put a mild poison in their husbands’ breakfast, and then when they got home late at night, they were given the antidote, so the poison was not too dangerous to humans. Men who did not return home because they were elsewhere and the antidote was delayed experienced headaches, nausea, shortness of breath, despair, discomfort, and vomiting.
he longer the man was gone from home, the sicker he became, and when he returned home, his wife would give him the antidote, and he would recover in a matter of minutes.
Men were duped into believing that being away from home would cause them agony and depression, so they became emotionally tied to their homes and women.
